the internet was lunched in 1969 when united states funded a program that developed a national computer network called Advanced Research Project Network (ARPANET), the internet consist of the acual physical network made up by wires, cables, and setellites. being connected to this network is often described as being online

Introduced in1992 at CERN, the web provides a multimedia interface to internet
COMMON USE

  • COMUNICATION : the most popular internet activity.
  • SHOPPING : One of the fastert-growing internet activities.
  • SEARCING : Accer libraries and local, national and international news
  • ENTERTAIMENT : music, movies, magezines and computer games
  • EDUCATION : E-learning or talking online courses


Access refers to the responsibility of those who have data to control who is able to use that data an PROVIDERS-An Internet service provider (ISP, or IAP) is a company that offers its customers access to the Internet. The ISP connects to its customers using a data transmission technology appropriate for delivering Internet protocol,data grams, such as dial-up, DSL, cable modem or dedicated high-speed interconnects.

  • BROWSERS-Special Internet software connecting to remote computers, opens and transfer files, displays text and images, and provides an uncomplicated interface to the Internet and Web documents.Examples of browsers are Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.
  • URLs-To connect you to to resources on the web,the location or address.Two parts are protocol and domain name,top level domain(TLD) identifies type of organization.
  • HTML-commands to display Web pages,hyperlinks(links) are connections. Applets-special programs linked to web pages,typically written in Java
  • Email-transmission of electronic messages.Basic elements:header(address,subject, and attachments),messages, and signature line.Spam is unwanted email that may include a computer virus.Spam blockers are programs that identify and eliminate spam.
  • Search engines-Specialized programs assisting in locating information on the Web and the Internet.Two approaches are keyword search and d irectory search.
  • Metasearch engines-Programs that a utomatically submit your request to several search engine simultaneously.
  • Specialized search engines-Search engines that focuses on subject-specific Web sites.

Web Utilities-Specialized utility programs making the internet and the web easier and safer.Some examples are plug-ins that operate as part of a browser and filters that block access and monitor use of selected web sites.Web based applications-Free users from owning and storing applications.The programs are accessed from a web sites,copied to the user's computer memory, and run.File transfer protocol(FTP)-Internet service for uploading and downloading files.Plug-ins-Program that automatically loaded and operates as part of a browser.

BASIC ABOUT APPLICATION SOFTWARE.

we learned about application software,word processors,spreadsheet,database management systems,presentation graphics,integrated packages and software suites.application basic is types of software that application software is software that can perform useful work, such as word processing,cost estimating, or accounting tasks.The user primarily interacts with application software.Basic applications and specialized applications are two categories of application software.

Common Features by using applicataion software are:

  • User interace-most have graphical user interface(GUI) that display icons.
  • Windows-rectangular areas that can contain documents,programs, and messages.
  • Menus-present commands listed on the menu bar
  • Dialog box-provides additional information or request user input.
  • Toolbars-contain buttons for quick access to commmanly used commands.
  • Ribbons-replace menu and toolbars:use tabs to organize commands.
  • Contextual tabs-automatically appear when needed.
